COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers from the Rocky Mountain Field Institute and Palmer Land Conservancy gathered in January at Mesa Valley Wildlife Preserve (a 19-acre natural space near Mesa Road and 19th Street) to remove invasive weeds and reduce fire risk in an off-season effort. KOAA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pueblo School District 60 saw its graduation rate rise to 88.9% (up 4.7%) and its dropout rate drop to 1.4% (down 1.2%) during the 2024-25 school year; the district credited stronger student support and family engagement for the improvements. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo Community College is developing an aviation maintenance technician program with CAE Training Center to train former coal workers, veterans and high school graduates. The program, housed at Pueblo Memorial Airport, will create at least 45 full-time jobs over three years. Pueblo Chieftain
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Riverstone Academy, Colorado’s first public Christian school in Pueblo, was ordered closed by Pueblo County on Jan. 6 over safety and zoning issues — the school said it submitted its Special Use Permit application on Jan. 7 while county officials evaluated further steps. KOAA
