BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nick's Dairy Creme at 528 E. 8th St. will reopen in March to serve its famous ice cream, despite a 'for sale' sign. Owner Mike Hartkop confirmed any new buyer must maintain the shop's core focus on ice cream.  Pueblo Chieftain

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the first day of Lent as Catholics gather at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart to receive ashes. They begin 40 days of fasting, prayer and charity in preparation for Easter.  KOAA
  • The Pueblo Heritage Museum is opening the new exhibit Building Pueblo, A Legacy of Black Communities today at 5:30 p.m. (at B Street near the Pueblo River Walk) with a free ribbon-cutting ceremony that marks the start of its tribute to Black contributions in Pueblo.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Carson soldiers from the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team will conduct live-fire exercises starting Monday, Feb. 23 and running through Friday, March 13, which may result in increased noise and dust south of the post. Residents with concerns may call the Public Affairs Office (719)526-9849.  KOAA
  • After a Feb. 17 wreck on I-25 that killed five people, CDOT advises drivers caught in dust storms to turn on headlights, lower speed, and pull safely off the road—exiting early to find a secure stopping spot. Motorists should remain buckled until conditions improve.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Local firefighters remain alert on high fire danger days like Wednesday, with a Pueblo brush truck patrolling the city and a fire pumper ready. Fire Chief Barb Huber said county staff are partnering to stay ahead of fires while burning is banned on Red Flag Day.  KOAA
