ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A lantern release is planned on Feb. 28 at Pueblo Riverwalk to honor the five victims of a Feb. 17 36-vehicle crash on I-25 south of town (including a father, son, nurse, and two grandparents), officials said. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Crews responded to a fire on Fort Carson's training area that burned 350 acres Wednesday morning+ firefighters worked to contain the blaze and limit further damage. KKTV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ During Black History Month, local historians highlight the role of Buffalo Soldiers in shaping early Colorado by protecting trails and communities during westward expansion (a memorial and 10-mile highway honor their legacy). KKTV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new map from Colorado Parks and Wildlife shows that two collared wolves wandered through Pueblo County watersheds this past month. CPW asks residents to report sightings (videos and photos) as the animals have not been near urban centers or crossed I-25. KOAA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, Pueblo West Fire Department deployed a brush truck (with three firefighters) to patrol for wildfires after voter-approved funds allowed the purchase of two extra trucks, doubling its fleet to better protect nearby homes. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo Transit received a $19 million grant to convert its fleet to zero emissions. The agency will use $16 million from federal funds and $3.2 million from state funds (for hybrids in the next two years and hydrogen buses after 2030) while building a new transit facility. KOAA
