- ➤ Benedict Park is getting major upgrades including new lighting, an improved playground with tactile boards, upgraded basketball court and trails thanks to nearly $600,000 in grants + construction will start in the fall with a grand opening planned in November and completion expected in January. - ➤ A poll by the Chieftain asked locals to choose which popular supermarket they want to see in Pueblo. The ACSI report released on Feb. 27 at 3:55 p.m. shows only Sam's Club and Target serve the city while other top-ranked brands await local interest * voters can share their picks. Pueblo Chieftain
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A lantern release will be held at the Pueblo Riverwalk at 5:15 p.m. Saturday to honor the five people killed in an I-25 crash on Feb. 17 caused by a dust storm that involved over 30 vehicles. KOAA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Susie Carnes was sworn in as a new member of Pueblo D70 on Feb. 25, replacing Anne Ochs who resigned. The teacher, a Colorado native and CSU Pueblo alumna, took her oath in a private ceremony at the board office. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ School District 60 will hold a school showcase today (10 a.m.) at Pueblo Community College, featuring all district levels for families choosing schools for next year. Executive director Kim Cura said the event offers a one-stop chance for parents to connect with school representatives. KOAA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colorado Parks and Wildlife has opened applications for its Human-Bear Conflict Reduction Community Grant Program to help Colorado communities lower bear conflicts. Eligible groups can apply for grants between $50,000 and $500,000 until May 29, 5 p.m. and winners will be announced later this year. KKTV
