COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pueblo offers a packed calendar with theater shows, art gallery openings, live music and community events planned this weekend and beyond. Dueling loopers perform today at Brues Alehouse while volunteer river cleanup, art talks and playful open mics are scheduled for upcoming days + tickets are affordable.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • The 10th annual Pueblo Polar Plunge will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on March 14 at Lake Pueblo State Park's South Shore Boat Ramp (1 South Marina Road) as over 100 participants plunge after raising a minimum of $80 for Colorado Special Olympics.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Pueblo preservationists are seeking funding to renovate the historic City Park bathhouse — hoping to cover costs through grants and donations.  Pueblo Chieftain

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three board candidates challenged the appointment of Susie Carnes to the D70 board after an irregular meeting on Feb. 10—legal documents from March 6 and a petition with over 1,000 signatures urge the board to review procedures and consider resignations.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Representatives from over 60 colleges attended the fourth annual Pueblo and Southern Colorado College Fair on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fortino Ballroom at Pueblo Community College (free college planning info and prize drawings with a chance at a $25 gas voucher were highlights).  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado’s House Bill 26-1010, which passed the House, would require the Colorado Commission on Aging (and the Colorado Workforce Development Council) to meet more frequently to tackle age discrimination in hiring older workers. The bill is now under Senate consideration and could soon reach Gov. Polis for signature.  KOAA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows that home prices in Pueblo County increased in December to a median of $312,500 — up 13.8% from November’s $274,500. Single-family homes also rose to $315,000 while condo and townhouse prices dropped by 12.5%.  Pueblo Chieftain

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Colorado Avalanche announced today it acquired forward Nazem Kadri along with a 2027 fourth-round draft pick from the Flames in exchange for forward Victor Olofsson, additional picks, and rights to an unsigned draft pick - Kadri returns as a former fan favorite after a successful stint with the team.  KKTV
