COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers at The Pueblo Shelter are asking for donations to fund the city's only homeless center through the Pueblo 1000 campaign. Rob Miller, president of Safeside Recovery (which offers peer support for unhoused people), said the goal is to have 1000 donors give $25 a month to raise $300,000 a year for fair wages and healthier food.  KOAA

CRIME NEWS

  • Pueblo police say an officer who was shot on Tuesday has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home—supporters have started a sanctioned meal train that has raised over $17,000 to help cover related costs.  KKTV
  • A Colorado City woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of criminal negligence causing death after leaving her 76-year-old mother (who had dementia) alone with free-roaming dogs early in February; police later found 54 dogs and seven birds in unsanitary conditions at her properties, and she is now held at Pueblo County jail on a $50,000 bond.  Pueblo Chieftain

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On St. Patrick's Day, Pueblo resident Sean S. won $1 million on a Powerball ticket bought at Winners Corner at 307 N. Main St. — he said he would invest most of his winnings in retirement and use some funds for home improvements.  Pueblo Chieftain

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado Public Utilities Commission approved a revised rate plan for Black Hills Energy that raises the annual increase to $17 million and will boost average monthly electric bills by about $7 — the changes go into effect today and also allow customers to opt in to on-peak hours from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  KOAA
