🌲 Environment
The Fountain Creek Watershed District is selling 50-gallon rain barrels to help homeowners collect rainwater for gardening and lawn care.
Each barrel costs $97 with an optional $10 donation for education programming — the sale runs online until April 6 with barrel pickup at 1802 Creek Crossing on Friday, April 18 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
🏛️ Government
City leaders reaffirmed their commitment to new commercial projects at a March 24 council work session—responding to concerns raised by a local real estate broker and an out-of-state developer—and outlined steps to ease permit hurdles along Pueblo Boulevard.
Officials said they are working with local partners to secure funding for infrastructure improvements required by CDOT—measures that aim to boost growth along the state highway corridor.
Firefighters in Colorado Springs are testing new methods to put out electric vehicle fires.
They hope to improve tactics to protect people and property as these incidents pose new challenges.
A report from Black Hills Energy and The Brattle Group shows that if Pueblo takes over its electric distribution system the cost will exceed one billion dollars, with each household paying about $270 more in the first year (costs will rise in later years).
The city council voted on Feb 24 for a special election so residents can decide on canceling its contract with Black Hills Electric.
🏥 Health
Health Solutions started an outreach team with Pueblo Police a year and a half ago, and the three-person team has handled more than 1,000 low-level emergency calls for welfare checks, suicide, and trespassing issues.
The team also supports the police through a crisis intervention program for high-level emergencies.
