CRIME NEWS

  • On March 31, police arrested 32-year-old Gilbert Ballejos for an alleged parole violation linked to a 2010 homicide at Battle Ground Skilled Gaming after deputies recognized him from an FBI wanted list—they later found over 9 grams of suspected methamphetamine and set a $5,000 bond ahead of his April 3 court appearance.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • A 32-year-old man identified as Gilbert Ballejos was arrested early Monday near Battle Ground Skillled Gaming on Santa Fe Drive in Blende on a parole violation for homicide and past weapon possession—deputies later found over 9 grams of suspected methamphetamine and added a controlled substance charge.  FOX21

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Pueblo rose 13 cents from last Monday, reaching an average of $2.99 per gallon and showing a 6-cent increase from yesterday’s level. Experts say prices will continue to climb and tariffs expected on April 2 might make the market more volatile—adding uncertainty for local drivers.  KKTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pueblo city council approved the purchase of the former PBR building at 101 Riverwalk Place for $7 million on March 10, a deal set after 101 W Riverwalk LLC bought it for $6 million on Jan. 31. The contract, which will close by May 1, was backed by an ordinance allowing up to $9.1 million in debt — a move to consolidate municipal operations.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • The Real Time Crime Center in Pueblo received upgrades including an expansion of ShotSpotter—adding more license plate readers and two mobile camera trailers funded by over $1 million from city and state funds. Future upgrades will include using drones as first responders.  KOAA
  • The City of Pueblo is working to ease problems along Pueblo Boulevard because CDOT rules boost safety measures that raise costs for developers—Pueblo leaders are teaming with local groups to find funds for road upgrades and support future growth.  FOX21

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment confirmed that an unvaccinated adult visiting Southwest Deli and Cafe from March 17 through March 21 and the Southern Colorado Clinic on March 22 contracted measles in Pueblo. Officials urged anyone who was at these locations to watch for symptoms for 21 days and avoid crowded settings.  KKTV
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced a nationwide recall of more than 200,000 pounds of liquid egg products sold under Egg Beaters and Bob Evans labels because they may contain a cleaning solution with sodium hypochlorite — a chemical used for bleaching. Consumers in Colorado with affected 32-ounce cartons should throw them away or return them to the retailer — no adverse health effects are expected.  FOX21
