COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Lovell Park pool in Pueblo West is closed, and plans are underway to build a new indoor community pool on Assembly Drive north of U.S. Highway 50. Construction will begin in late 2026 or early 2027, with completion expected around Oct. or Nov. (pending variables). Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Pueblo's Arkansas River Trail is getting 112 new solar lights installed from West 11th Street Pedestrian Bridge to Runyon Lake; work began on March 25 and will finish by June 23, with detour signs guiding pedestrians during construction. Pueblo Chieftain
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Colorado nonprofit Bringing Music to Life is hosting its 16th annual musical instrument drive to help music students, accepting gently used instruments until April 5 with a drop-off at Marck Time Music in Pueblo (the program has provided nearly 10,000 instruments since 2009). Pueblo Chieftain
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pueblo County will start charging fees on May 1 for using amenities at the Recreation Center and for some open gym programs at McHarg Park and Fulton Heights, with special pricing for youth and low-income users to fund improved facility upkeep. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Since the hands-free law took effect last year, data from Cambridge Mobile Telematics shows distracted driving is down nearly 5% and has helped prevent almost 600 crashes + more than 400 injuries statewide. The Colorado Department of Transportation says increased enforcement is keeping roads safer. KOAA
- ➤ The city has given seven local nonprofits using the Sustainacenter on East Boulder St until June 30 to find a new office space as it sells the building for budget reasons; groups like Hey Neighbor & Fountain Creek Watershed District are planning their next collaborative hub. KOAA
