CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mythia Latka was found guilty of first degree murder after an 11-day trial and a 4-day jury deliberation and was sentenced on March 31 to life in prison for killing her infant—according to the Pueblo County 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office. KOAA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 1, the Pueblo County Board of County Commissioners passed a 2-1 vote urging Gov. Jared Polis to veto a bill that would limit buying semiautomatic guns with detachable magazines—citing worries over added fees and duties for gun stores and the sheriff. Some officials said the bill would hurt law-abiding gun owners, while one commissioner opposed the vote even though he believes some gun rules can work. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ The City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department and the Pueblo Conservancy District are inviting residents to share feedback on the Pueblo City Park and Arkansas River Corridor Plan to enhance recreation, improve water quality and extend trails—public input is available online and open houses will be held as design alternatives are presented in May. This plan is part of a joint effort to update community spaces and ensure a better experience for all users. City of Pueblo
- ➤ The City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department and the Pueblo Conservancy District are asking residents for input on a plan to improve the Arkansas River Corridor from Pueblo Lake Dam to Runyon Lake with goals that include better trails and enhanced water quality. A questionnaire for user groups is online + community open houses will be held and design alternatives will be presented in May for further public feedback. FOX21
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Following Colorado's first measles case of 2025 in an unvaccinated Pueblo resident returning from Mexico, local health officials identified three exposure sites in Pueblo including South Side Walmart where visitors on March 22 between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. may have been exposed to measles. Health officials advise anyone who visited these locations to monitor for symptoms—fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and rash—and contact a health provider if they feel sick. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment said a confirmed measles case led to the identification of three exposure locations, including the south side Walmart on West Northern Avenue where most exposure occurred on Saturday, March 22 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.—parents with young children are taking extra precautions since their little ones are too young for the vaccine. - ➤ Public health experts from CDPHE and PDPHE discovered a third location of possible measles exposure after confirming the state's first case on March 31. People who visited the Southwest Deli and Cafe, Southern Colorado Clinic or South Side Walmart on March 17 to March 22 are urged to monitor for fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and rash for 21 days and to contact a health provider if they feel ill.
