EDUCATION NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, April 7, Attorney General Phil Weiser announced that Colorado will receive more than $5 million from a nationwide $335 million opioid settlement with Mylan Inc. now part of Viatris. • The REAL ID Act will take full effect on Wednesday, May 7 so all citizens must have a driver’s license or ID that shows a star for compliance—if it does not, update it at a DMV office. In May, travelers will need a compliant ID or an acceptable alternative like a U.S. passport or military ID to board domestic flights and enter federal facilities.  FOX21
  • A new study by GDS Associates shows that creating a city-run electric utility is not feasible for Pueblo because high startup costs would likely raise bills—Director Andrew Hayes said the city will look at other options such as partnering with other governmental entities and cooperative utilities, and voters will decide on a related question in the May 6 special election.  KOAA

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced on Monday the state's second confirmed measles case in an unvaccinated Denver County infant under 1 who recently traveled with family to Chihuahua, Mexico where a measles outbreak is ongoing.
