CRIME NEWS

  • Pueblo Police Department said that three vehicles racing after midnight on April 6 led to a crash into a home near South Prairie Avenue in southern Pueblo that caused an engine fire—18-year-old Jaiden Maes was arrested on charges including Vehicular Reckless Assault, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Driving Without a Valid License, and Displaying an Expired Number Plate.  FOX21
  • A woman was arrested on Sunday after her vehicle crashed into a home on Elmwood Circle near Pueblo Boulevard and Hollywood Drive when police conducting a speed enforcement sweep identified the 18-year-old driver, Jaiden Maes, whose car caught fire—officers safely removed both Maes and her passenger and took them for evaluation before Maes was booked at the detention center.  KOAA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chavez Huerta K-12 Preparatory Academy is fighting to stay open after Pueblo School District 60 declined to renew its charter—families, teachers, and parents support the school's appeal as it awaits a hearing on May 15 at the Colorado Department of Education.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, April 7, the City of Pueblo presented the preliminary findings of an independent study looking into acquiring electric utility assets from Black Hills Energy or forming a new multi-jurisdictional utility. The study found that buying assets only within the city is not viable and the full report will be available on the Public Works Department website (in the next week to 10 days).  City of Pueblo
