CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A third Pueblo Police officer will be released from the hospital today weeks after a deadly shooting on March 18 injured three officers when a suspect opened fire near Bessemer Park; police will hold a welcome home procession at 11:30 a.m. near the police station (Main Street from Alan Hamel Avenue to Abriendo Avenue is closed for the route). - ➤ The last Pueblo police officer hospitalized after a March 18th ambush shooting that injured three officers—two of whom had already been discharged—is set to be released today and honored in a welcome-home procession beginning at 11:30 a.m. near the police department. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Shannon McShane from Monument pleaded guilty to two felonies and one misdemeanor for faking her psychology credentials to get a state license and work as a child and family investigator at Pueblo’s mental health institute—she is scheduled for sentencing on June 23. FOX21
- ➤ A 19-year-old Pueblo man was fatally shot in an alleged drive-by near the intersection of Hudson Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass on April 6—he was identified on April 11 as Michael James Suazo by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office—and police said a red 2015 Ford Escape has been found—its registered owners are not suspects. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ USA Boxing will bring its International Open to the Pueblo Convention Center from April 13 to 19, drawing more than 400 athletes and their families from 22 countries to help boost local hotels, restaurants and shops. Check-in starts on April 13 and matches on two rings will feature events in 49 weight classes (covering youth, junior and elite divisions) while organizers expect a 25-50% rise in economic impact. - ➤ After a March 18 shooting in Pueblo where a man on bond fired over 80 rounds, injuring three officers and resulting in the suspect being shot dead, Pueblo Police Chief Chris Noeller said a letter from the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police boosted his call for tougher laws—he blamed soft-on-crime policies for putting officers at risk. The third injured officer was released today—while the chief pleaded with lawmakers for the tools needed to keep our community safe. KKTV
- ➤ Former Colorado lawmaker Leroy Garcia has been named Perry Jacobson’s Colorado lead after working at the Pentagon and USDA—he is a Pueblo native who will work with the state Legislature, the governor’s office and local governments. Pueblo Chieftain
