COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tickets for the St. Jude Dream Home giveaway go on sale today — giving local residents a chance to enter the contest and support the charity.  KKTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Closing arguments were heard Tuesday in a trial over a campus dorm shooting that left a UCCS student and a Pueblo resident dead, with evidence including a recent weapon purchase and key card records presented as the jury prepares to deliberate Wednesday. Meanwhile, Pueblo City Council postponed its vote on a no sit or lie ordinance, rescheduling the decision to April 28.  KOAA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chavez-Huerta Preparatory Academy held a demonstration on April 8 in front of the D60 building and asked the district to release them so they can move to a new authorizer and add more programs—such as dual immersion and online courses. D60 stated that the decision is under appeal and CHPA will appear before the State Board of Education on May 15.  FOX21

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Great Outdoors Colorado is giving away 120,000 wildflower seed packets—each with 151 million seeds—to help kids and families connect with nature; the packets are available now at 585 sites including libraries and state parks.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state's General Assembly recognized World Quantum Day on Monday when Governor Jared Polis issued an official proclamation. A new quantum facility will open in Boulder in a few months to offer labs and work for about 3,000 workers (showing Colorado's rising role in quantum technology).  KOAA
  • A federal judge blocked deportations of immigrants in Colorado under the Alien Enemies Act after the ACLU intervened for two Venezuelan men held in Denver, and the block will last 14 days with a hearing set for April 21. Pueblo City Council postponed a vote on a no sit or lie ordinance in downtown and will decide on it at the next meeting on April 28.  KOAA
  • The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to identify a man connected to a theft at Dollar General in Blende. Pueblo City Council postponed its vote on a no sit-lie ordinance until the next meeting on April 28.  KOAA
