- ➤ A high-profile case remains delayed in southern Colorado as victims of the Return to Nature funeral home in Penrose are still looking for answers after nearly 200 bodies were found in October 2023 with owner Jon Hallford set to be sentenced on federal and state charges and his wife Carie facing trial for federal charges while activist Crystina Page said many families question if the remains they received were of their loved ones. - ➤ On April 17, several Pueblo County residents spoke at a Colorado Public Utilities Commission hearing and urged a plan to replace the closing Comanche 3 coal plant with a Renewable Energy Park—combining solar, wind and battery storage. The proposal from Energy Innovation will create over 300 permanent jobs and up to $40 million in annual tax revenue as a faster, less expensive alternative to a nuclear plant. Pueblo Chieftain
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Colorado Department of Agriculture said two horses were euthanized after testing positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA), an incurable disease that affects horses, mules, and donkeys. The first case occurred in Douglas County on April 5th and the second in Jefferson County on April 9th, and officials said the risk to other animals remains low as they continue the investigation.
