CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office warns residents that scammers are contacting people to coerce them into sending Bitcoin or gift cards to avoid arrest on outstanding warrants—officials stress that law enforcement never makes such requests by phone. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo police responded in minutes to two shootings using ShotSpotter technology—an automated detection system covering six square miles—and a remote analyst confirming alerts so officers reached within six feet of the gunfire without waiting for a 911 call. KOAA
- ➤ The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that a suspect left a burglary at Sinclair on 108 Baxter Road in Pueblo County in a white sedan — deputies are asking for information on both the suspect and the vehicle's driver. KKTV

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 28, Pueblo D60 board voted 3-2 to block Chavez Huerta from applying for outside authorization after deciding not to renew its charter contract that expires June 30—Colorado Attorney General officials submitted an amicus brief warning that closing could waste $30 million in BEST grant funds. Chavez Huerta plans to appeal the decision before the Colorado State Board of Education on May 15—its representatives hope to secure another path forward. Pueblo Chieftain

- ➤ The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment—tasked with protecting community health—announced that Pueblo residents can drop off up to nine old waste tires for free at Pueblo RecycleWorks, 1595 Stockyard Road, on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only tires for passenger cars, ATVs and light trucks without rims will be accepted while tires with rims, tractor or semi truck tires or tires covered in dirt or filled with water will not be accepted. - ➤ Pueblo City Council considered a proposed ordinance to ban homeless people from sitting and lying in public spaces but did not pass it on April 28—some council members wanted the rule applied citywide 24 hour instead of in business districts from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Residents can share their opinions in a poll that will close on May 5.
