ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade awarded Pueblo a $50,000 market study grant through the CHIPS Community Support Program to analyze local semiconductor opportunities. The funding will support advanced industries growth across southern Colorado.  Pueblo Chieftain

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pueblo County high schools and colleges are set to hold graduation ceremonies (details on dates and locations are still being finalized) in the coming weeks. Students, families and community members are preparing to celebrate these milestones.  Pueblo Chieftain

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Black Hills Energy crews relocated three osprey nests near Pueblo and the Penrose/Florence area to specially built nesting platforms to reduce electrical hazards and protect the birds. Follow-up checks show the ospreys returning to the new nests (under federal bird protection laws).  KKTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill expanding Colorado’s safe haven law to let parents surrender their newborns up to 30 days after birth (up from 72 hours); the law will take effect in August.  KOAA
  • Governor Jared Polis declared May as Wildfire Awareness Month in Colorado, meeting with the state Division of Fire Prevention and Control yesterday to outline increased summer fire risk for the Front Range & Western areas. He urged residents to follow safety protocols amid widespread drought.  KKTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ethan and Scott Pesch from California are cycling thousands of miles and will stop at Coors Field on May 19 to raise funds for children fighting cancer (St. Jude). They plan to reach a $100,000 milestone as they pedal through the Rockies.  KKTV
