- ➤ On May 1, over 100 union members gathered at Ray Aguilera Park to fight for worker rights and protest federal job cuts, public health cuts and a proposed grocery tax. Speakers said past struggles show that unity is key to protecting gains—urging continued protest against policies they said harm workers. Pueblo Chieftain
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, April 15 at 8:33 p.m., officers responded to an assault call on the 600 block of Main Street near Fourth Street and I-25; the victim later died on April 25 from his injuries, and 42-year-old Ryan Ramos was arrested on charges including First Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon — marking Pueblo’s fourth homicide of the year. - ➤ A former Pueblo corrections officer in the Youthful Offender System had misconduct charges dismissed after denying allegations of inappropriate email contact with a former inmate—district attorney Kala Beauvais declined to comment while case records remain sealed. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ On Friday, Deon Council-Rivera was sentenced to 44 years in prison for shooting a Pueblo Police Officer in 2023 — he pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and second-degree assault on a peace officer as part of a plea agreement, the District Attorney said. KKTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials in Pueblo County say wildfire season is now a year-round risk and several fires have already occurred this spring, including one at Lake Minnequa on April 10 that prompted reminders to heed red flag warnings and sign up for alerts—city crews are also working to reduce risks by mowing tall grasses and maintaining firebreaks as conditions grow hotter and drier. - ➤ Pueblo Public Works is upgrading the El Centro Del Quinto Sol skatepark on the east side to improve sidewalks, pavement, and parking so residents can walk, bike and drive easily. The project is funded by a voter approved ballot measure from 2016 + work will be completed by year’s end. KOAA
