A 4.0 earthquake struck near Weston at 10:45 a.m. Thursday and shook southern Pueblo; the USGS said there is a 28% chance of an aftershock above 3.0 within the next week.
Carmel Community School students received free books through the ‘If You Give a Child a Book’ campaign that donates books twice a year to six Title One schools in our area (including Pueblo).
The event at the southeast school featured a books fair that made literacy more accessible.

Irving Elementary earned the Center of Excellence Award & Haaff Elementary received the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award from state education officials today.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife released its annual gray wolf report (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026) showing that 32 wolves were identified—with 24 in established packs—and outlining ongoing tracking, conflict reduction, and research efforts.
Pueblo Parks and Recreation drained Lake Clara in Mineral Palace Park on May 7 to remove sediment and improve water quality; Colorado Parks and Wildlife relocated fish from the lake.
The lake must dry completely before cleanup begins, which may take over a year.
Colorado has launched a disaster recovery navigation tool to help homeowners, renters, farmers, business owners, and the unhoused find resources after disasters — Pikes Peak officials say the tool supplements local emergency management.
