- ➤ First Tee Southern Colorado is calling for volunteer coaches to teach children the game of golf and life skills—last year the program served more than 5,200 kids in El Paso, Pueblo, Teller, and Fremont counties—and offers free equipment as well as scholarships. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo foster parents Eppie and Denise Duran are being honored by the state during National Foster Care Month for opening their home to 30 foster children and adopting one child—showing a long commitment since they began fostering in 2000. They continue to help fill a critical need with Pueblo having 62 certified foster homes and 145 children in care. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Pueblo’s Eastside will soon get a new Mexican grocery store—Super Market Gonzalez, owned by local resident Evans Gonzalez—opening Saturday, May 24th at 4th St. and Bradford Ave to offer fresh produce, dairy, Mexican candy plus other quality products to help address the area's limited food access. - ➤ Dana Charles, a Pueblo healthcare practice manager with 24 years of experience, is running in the 2026 state Senate race to challenge incumbent Sen. Nick Hinrichsen. She said her campaign—centered on affordability, parental rights, the Second Amendment, public safety and preserving TABOR—will work to lower fees and protect local rights. Pueblo Chieftain
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment has proposed a Healthy Drinks and Kids Meals Policy to have kids meals include water or unsweetened milk instead of sugary beverages to help counter rising obesity and type 2 diabetes. Local restaurant owner Bruce Deveraux of B&C Tacos said his shop already offers healthy options—and the policy now awaits a Pueblo City Council vote. KOAA
