  • Pueblo honored Civil War veteran Warren C. Dockum—the only Medal of Honor recipient buried in the community—on Memorial Day at Roselawn Cemetery. Dockum fought in key battles like Antietam and Sailor’s Creek, received his Medal of Honor from President Andrew Johnson, and was later laid to rest with his family.  KKTV
  • Southern Colorado commemorated Memorial Day at Pikes Peak National Cemetery as community members, veterans, and military families gathered to honor fallen service members—Pueblo’s Home of Heroes was recognized in this meaningful tribute.  KKTV
  • Veterans Overcoming Obstacles, a Pueblo non-profit led by Marine veteran Chris Carter who has been sober for over 11 years, hosted its 6th annual Butch Chavez Memorial Day Walk, Run, Ruck Challenge Monday to raise funds for veteran health and wellness programs—focusing on support for those with PTSD and addiction struggles while also honoring fallen veteran Joe Romero.  KKTV
  • Veterans in Pueblo gathered on Memorial Day to remember those who served, with Thomas Medina speaking under the Veterans Bridge at the Pueblo Riverwalk and Travis Baker emphasizing that every day is a time for remembrance. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 5, Walmart employees at the North Side store on Dillon Drive rescued an unresponsive customer from a burning car when staff member Mason Tompkins first pulled him away from the flames—store manager Jesse Dauenhauer said the quick action saved his life.  Pueblo Chieftain

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation began a death investigation after firefighters found a body inside a burning car on a frontage road near mile marker 92 south of Pueblo — the Pueblo Fire Department had extinguished the fire shortly after 1 a.m.  KKTV
