ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On May 31, six hikers (including five juveniles) were rescued from Greenhorn Mountain after a nearly 25-hour search by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Flight for Life, and additional rescue teams, with one injured rescue member taken to a hospital and all hikers later found to be in good condition. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Union members at Safeway and Albertsons in Pueblo and surrounding areas are voting on a strike this week over concerns with understaffing and low wage increases, with workers in Pueblo nearly all backing the strike. A Safeway spokesperson said the company is negotiating in good faith to reach an agreement that is fair for employees—one that helps the company stay competitive. KKTV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Pueblo police said a male suspect pulled a firearm during a shoplifting incident and was struck by a patrol car Tuesday afternoon—he died at the scene. KKTV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Twelve Colorado service members’ artifacts, including nurse wings and a dog leash, were escorted Sunday along Interstate 25 to an airplane at DIA for shipment to the Netherlands—where they will be set into a new Honor Bell. Casting of the bell began Tuesday at a foundry in the Netherlands and is expected to be finished later this year—so it can toll at veteran memorials in southern Colorado. KKTV

- ➤ The Pueblo West Metro District has introduced its board of directors for 2025—this group of local leaders will serve to guide district operations. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ On June 2, Pueblo Director of Public Works Andrew Hayes presented a proposal to double hourly parking meter fees from 50 cents to $1, replace 26 coin-operated meters with a digital payment system, and raise monthly fees at four municipal lots by $15 to $20. The proposal (which also includes a residential parking program) will be reviewed by City Council on June 23 (aiming to reduce costly repairs). Pueblo Chieftain
