COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Two honor bell guards escorted medals and artifacts from 12 veterans to the Netherlands this past weekend so they can be melted into a new Honor Bell. The bell will be complete by the end of the month — it is expected to be in Colorado Springs by Veterans Day. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo marked the 104th anniversary of the Great Flood of 1921, which from June 2nd to June 5th led to severe damage, killed about 500 people, and cost $19 million in 1921 dollars (now over $339 million today). The Pueblo Heritage Museum (at 201 W. B St.) opened an exhibit showing historic photos of the flood and the town's quick recovery. KKTV
- ➤ A nonprofit in Pueblo helps people with disabilities learn skills and find work. Pueblo Diversified Industries offers jobs in farming, cleaning, manufacturing and rail support — last year it employed about 140 people with 75% having disabilities. KOAA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 36-year-old man, Antonio Herrera, died on June 3 after being struck by a Pueblo police vehicle during an alleged armed shoplifting incident at Famous Footwear—authorities say he fled on foot and failed to drop a handgun as officers pursued him, and the Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident. - ➤ Deputies arrested 39-year-old Brian Feltner on Tuesday, June 3 in Pueblo County after he allegedly stole two rifles from his roommate while on parole—he tried to drive away and was taken into custody on outstanding warrants and new charges of theft and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. - ➤ Former board president Tommy Farrell is running for a Pueblo School District 60 board seat in the November election after serving until 2023. He aims to boost student success & support inclusive schools while pledging responsible budgeting & community partnerships. Pueblo Chieftain
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Colorado health officials confirmed the state's 12th measles case, a vaccinated adult on a Turkish Airlines flight that arrived at DIA on May 13, after an unvaccinated traveler exposed others at local spots; seven cases are tied to that traveler who exposed people at Trader Joe’s in Denver, King Soopers in Windsor and Target in Glendale, and officials urge anyone with symptoms like fever or rash to seek guidance immediately.
