- ➤ The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Pueblo announced Tuesday it received a $100,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to address gaps in veterinary care on the East Side. The society will work with local partners to identify community needs and expand affordable pet care + benefits for historically excluded residents. KKTV
- ➤ Pueblo Parks and Recreation is hosting the inaugural Steel City Arkansas River Festival—also known as SCARF—on July 26 with several registered events such as a Build Your Own Boat Race at 10:00 a.m., a Freestyle River Surf Competition, a paddle and bike parade, and a Rubber Duck Race with duck adoptions starting June 16. The free community festival will celebrate the region’s natural beauty and offer both competitive and family-friendly activities, with team registrations due by July 11 and individual registrations by July 24. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office identified Jessica Lee Madrid as the second victim in a May 31 motorcycle crash—she died June 6 after her husband’s bike did not stop at a stop sign near 29th Lane and was hit by a Hyundai Tucson—with neither rider wearing a helmet. Pueblo Chieftain

- ➤ Gulfco Manufacturing held a ribbon cutting Tuesday in Pueblo for its new solar field project that will cut energy use by up to 90% and boost revenue for local schools and services. Company leaders said the project marks a continued investment in sustainable jobs and community growth — a sign of their long-term commitment — as they build on decades in Pueblo. KKTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 9, City Council awarded SafeSide Recovery Foundation the contract to run the Pueblo Shelter campus at 710 W. 4th Street and 728 W. 4th Street—SafeSide had managed the shelter after Pueblo Rescue Mission closed in December due to an investigation of missing funds. Mayor Heather Graham said the city is pleased to have a long-term partner to serve local unhoused neighbors. FOX21
- ➤ Pueblo County commissioners tabled two competing resolutions on June 10 that would declare the county not a sanctuary county—one resolution praised the role of immigrants in the community while the other used tougher language against illegal immigrant aliens.
