COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CSU Pueblo is reviving its Let Freedom Howl event for Fourth of July on Friday, July 4 on the west side of its campus after nearly two decades away—this celebration will feature a synchronized fireworks and drone show at 9:15 p.m. and include a live DJ, water zone, yard games, food trucks, vendors, and a Pueblo Symphony Orchestra tribute show at 7:30 p.m. with free admission and parking.  FOX21

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Workers at several Safeway stores went on strike Monday, demanding better pay, benefits, and staffing levels with picket lines seen in Pueblo and other Colorado communities. Union leaders said the strike will expand until a new contract is reached — votes were taken in multiple cities to authorize further action.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Pueblo Department of Public Works is asking residents to email suggestions for a pothole filling effort planned for June 23-27—this will help fix neighborhood roads that are not part of major repairs. Acting Director Chuck Roy said the project will exclude private lots and state highways—residents are encouraged to report their local problem spots.  City of Pueblo
  • Today, the City of Pueblo reported more potholes on local roads and asked residents to email reports before repair work begins on June 23—27. City officials said the temporary cold patch fixes will prevent damage until a long-term solution is ready.  FOX21
  • Mayor Heather Graham proposed changes to the half-cent sales tax criteria on June 16 that would let funds be used for economic catalyst projects+which may attract big businesses like Costco or Buc-ee's+ while City Council will vote on the proposal on June 23.   • The City of Pueblo Department of Public Works is asking residents to report potholes for a filling effort planned for the week of June 23 through June 27. Residents should email the department with cross street details to help target areas not part of major road maintenance—private or out-of-city roads will not be considered.  FOX21
