COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pueblo Police Department will host the Community Connect Open House on July 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at its Community Room on South Main St.—the event will let residents and local businesses see how linking security cameras to the Real-Time Crime Center will improve public safety.  City of Pueblo

CRIME NEWS

  • Residents on Pine Street reported suspicious activity at a vacant house after seeing people coming and going, while police recorded 11 service calls, issued four trespassing citations and arrested two individuals—city officials found three code violations and planned to board up and clean the property.  KOAA
  • Pueblo Police arrested 26-year-old Ramiro Hijar after he allegedly threw a chair through a bar window and broke another store window on July 5 at 3:30 a.m. near (Union and Grand Avenues) before running through the El Pueblo History Museum parking lot and being booked on two counts of criminal mischief.  FOX21

CULTURE NEWS

  • A study by The Action Network ranked Colorado as the second-best state for viewing asteroids and meteors—its high elevation, dark skies, and observatories were key factors in the rating. With just over a month until the Perseid meteor shower, residents may have a prime chance to see a sky full of shooting stars.  Pueblo Chieftain

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On July 1, CPW and Springs Utilities moved over 1,700 trout from Mason Reservoir—located in the South Slope Recreation Area—to protect the fish before draining the lake for repairs on a leaking pipe. The trout were carefully collected with backpack electrofishers and relocated to local reservoirs like Rosemont, McReynolds and Nichols.  FOX21
