  • The City of Pueblo celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand re-opening of the Slab on July 31 — a $500,000 project that upgraded the basketball court with new concrete, posts, benches, LED lighting and murals by four local artists. Community members joined the festivities — enjoying shot clock competitions and skills drills as the remodeled venue revived a local favorite.  City of Pueblo
  • More than 50 Southern Colorado veterans traveled in May aboard the Honor Flight of Southern Colorado on a free three-day trip to Washington, D.C. to visit war memorials and honor their service—News5 reporters captured heartfelt stories of sacrifice and healing—with a special send off in Colorado Springs. Families and community members in Colorado Springs gathered—at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame—to welcome the veterans home and recognize their sacrifice.  KOAA

  • Atlas Holdings finalized its acquisition of EVRAZ Inc. NA and EVRAZ Inc. NA Canada on July 31 — forming the Orion Steel Companies that run steel mills in Pueblo, Portland, and Regina. Orion Steel employs 3,400 workers, and its Pueblo mill is the world's largest solar-powered steel mill and North America's largest rail supplier.  FOX21

CRIME NEWS

  • Country music star and Pueblo native Cody Cozz discovered on Monday that his band trailer had been broken into—over $20,000 worth of equipment was stolen including his drummer's gear and cables. He reported the theft to police and contacted insurance—asking anyone with surveillance video or tips to come forward.  KKTV
  • Pueblo police arrested one motorcycle rider for performing reckless stunts and blocking traffic after community calls led officers to see him doing wheelies and riding while standing on his seat—two other riders fled the scene.  KKTV
