CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is looking for missing 14-year-old Aubrie Vogel who was last seen leaving her home on the 2500 block of East Highway 96 in Pueblo while wearing black shorts and a pink shirt—officials said she has red hair and hazel eyes and ask anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office. - ➤ Lake Pueblo State Park opened in 1975 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary as Colorado’s most visited state park. The park drew 2.9 million visitors in 2024—offering boating, fishing, camping, and hiking opportunities—and lies about six miles west of Pueblo. Pueblo Chieftain
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colorado Gov. Jared Polis rejected federal plans to use National Guard troops for ICE operations, saying they should remain focused on local emergencies. The federal effort would deploy nearly 2,000 Guard members for detention facility support—Colorado officials say no such plans are in place and call for more transparency. KOAA
- ➤ Greyhound is under federal scrutiny as the DOJ opened an investigation into Flix North America Inc. for its alleged mistreatment of people with disabilities. Local stops in El Paso and Pueblo counties have not filed formal complaints while the review will check if ADA accommodations were not provided — the company has not commented on the matter. KOAA
- ➤ On Aug. 4, Pueblo County opened the Pueblo West Motor Vehicle Office at 267 S. Joe Martinez Blvd. to offer license plate, handicap placard, and other services — the new office aims to cut wait times at the courthouse and will serve as a mini Clerk and Recorder Office with a polling center for elections. - ➤ The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will perform at the Wings of Pride air show at Pueblo Memorial Airport in late September after Major Brandon Maxson conducted a site survey on August 5.
