EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pueblo children are going back to school next week while a new Colorado law requires drivers to stop for school buses with flashing red lights unless a physical barrier separates the lanes — motorists must stop at least 20 feet away and remain stopped until the lights turn off. Local police and the Colorado State Patrol stress that drivers slow down and stay alert in school zones to keep kids safe as classes start on Aug. 11 for School District 70 and Aug. 19 for School District 60.  Pueblo Chieftain

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region is hosting a public meeting today at 6 p.m. at Rawlings Library (100 East Abriendo Avenue) to discuss a mule deer management plan for herds west of I-25 in counties including Pueblo. Those who cannot attend in person can join virtually to help shape the 10-year plan.  FOX21

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado law now requires licensed firearm sellers to report suspected sales of lost, stolen, or crime-linked guns within 48 hours while sheriff offices complete serial number checks within three business days. Schools must share state-approved gun violence prevention materials with families, and lawmakers say the measures aim to improve community safety—though some critics argue the rules cast firearms in a negative light.  KOAA
