Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 12th of August.
Good morning, Pueblo.
Pueblo School District 60 is teaming with Pueblo Transit to help high school students overcome transportation issues after a recent study showed a 43% chronic absenteeism rate in 2023–24.
The district’s 'Be Present, Be Powerful and Empowered by Reading' initiative began last school year and will offer more free rides as it works to improve attendance for the 2025–26 school year.
On Sunday, Aug. 10th at 10:45 a.m., Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported that a large fallen tree blocked nearly the entire channel of the Arkansas River three miles above Swallows—posing a risk to boaters and water users.
Officials warned anyone near the river to avoid the area until the hazard is removed.
Pueblo City Council is voting on an ordinance that—if passed—will put a measure on the November 4 ballot to raise sales and use tax from 3.7% to 4.7%, potentially generating more than $26 million for the general fund.
Mayor Heather Graham supports the proposal for better infrastructure and services, while some councilors worry it does not create new revenue opportunities.
