ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Authorities recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from 23-foot-deep water near the dam at Lake Pueblo State Park on Tuesday—CPW said emergency CPR and rapid response efforts were unable to revive him. KKTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Selena Ruiz Gomez, a licensed mental health professional who has lived in Pueblo since she was 15, launched her campaign for one of two open City Council seats to address issues like crime, homelessness and economic development — she will work with local experts and community resources if elected. - ➤ The Front Range Passenger Rail District briefed Colorado Springs City Council that a proof-of-concept train will run between Denver and Fort Collins by 2029 before planned service eventually extends to Pueblo and Colorado Springs— the proposed Colorado Springs station near America the Beautiful Park will see trains carrying up to 470 passengers daily. - ➤ On Aug. 11, Pueblo City Council voted 4—3 to reject an ordinance that would let voters decide to renew the half cent sales tax on Nov. 4 and to expand criteria for economic projects—Mayor Graham warned the decision would keep Pueblo stagnant. The half cent sales tax fund currently exceeds $63 million and the move leaves future development plans in question. City of Pueblo
- ➤ Pueblo City Council passed an ordinance Tuesday morning — placing a 1% sales tax increase on the November ballot — that would raise the current tax from 3.7% to 4.7% and generate over $26 million each year. Mayor Heather Graham said the measure aims to address budget shortfalls and fund key city improvements. KOAA
