- ➤ An 18-year-old former Central High School wrestler drowned at Lake Pueblo on Aug. 12—CPW said he was pulled from 23 feet of water near the dam and pronounced dead just before 1 p.m. Pueblo Chieftain
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 19-year-old man, identified as James Jaramillo, was shot dead by Pueblo police in a July 2024 standoff on the north side after he fired at officers — police confirmed he was a suspect in several local homicides. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Jury selection is underway for Corena Minjarez, accused of killing two children and hiding their remains in Pueblo last year—dozens of potential jurors remain as the process is set to conclude today with opening statements to follow. KKTV
- ➤ CBI is investigating a shooting in Leadville after a teen said he was shot in the arm during a confrontation on Monday, August 11—two local teenagers were arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder. KOAA

- ➤ Pueblo voters will decide on a 1% sales and use tax increase on Nov. 4 to address a city budget shortfall—approved by City Council with a 5—2 vote—while a separate proposal to change the half‐cent sales tax criteria was rejected with a 4—3 vote. Pueblo Chieftain
