BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Pueblo West Metro District board voted unanimously on Aug. 13 to waive the water resource requirement for American Dirt Contractors, which is building a materials recycling facility on a 6-acre lot at E. Industrial Blvd. The board set a cap of 8,000 gallons a month—this limit will follow the property if sold.  Pueblo Chieftain

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday at 8:13 a.m., Pueblo Police arrested 23-year-old Ryan Childers-Pierce for attempting to rob a woman at the 800 block of Desert Flower Boulevard—police later found him near Blueflax Drive with a bag holding the handgun and clothing used during the incident, and his bond is set at $50,200.  KKTV
  • The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help identifying a man linked to a theft at Circle K on Santa Fe Avenue in Blende—if anyone has information, they are urged to call the department.  KOAA
  • Key witnesses testified on Friday in Pueblo in the trial of Corena Minjarez, who is accused of killing two kids and hiding their bodies. The evidence presentation will continue Monday at 8:20 a.m.—with emotional testimony from a CSI sergeant and a family friend detailing the recovery of the remains.  KKTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former students and parents of Chavez Huerta Preparatory Academy in Pueblo are asking where the mariachi instruments, uniforms, and funds raised for the program went after the school closed in June — Pueblo School District 60 said the items are secured on campus and funds will be managed by the CHPA Foundation once the audit is complete.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority have launched a grant program to help auto theft victims cover costs such as cleaning, repairs, alternate transportation and theft prevention measures. The program offers support for registered and insured vehicles—assisting with expenses after stolen cars are recovered.  FOX21
  • Pueblo Mayor Heather Graham vetoed a city council plan yesterday that would have let voters decide if the city returned to a city manager system—she said the mayor system helps Pueblo grow. Council members will meet on August 25—if they override the veto, residents will choose the government form in November.  KOAA
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission will host a two-day hybrid meeting in Pueblo starting Thursday, August 21 at 8:30 a.m.—the meeting will review reimbursement rules for veterinarians handling gray wolf injuries and provide an update on Lake Pueblo State Park. Additional topics include reports from the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture, a financial update, the 2025 State Wildlife Action Plan, reptile regulations, and the 2026 Commission schedule.  KOAA
  • Pueblo Mayor Heather Graham vetoed a City Council ordinance passed on August 11 that would have let voters choose a City Manager model—she said the council shows no clear leadership. The veto may be overturned later this week, which will let residents decide if Pueblo changes its government form.  KOAA
