Good morning, Pueblo. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 27th of August.
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Trussworks announced on Monday that it will expand its operations in Pueblo by adding 65 full-time jobs that pay over $54,000 each—a move expected to generate more than $3.5 million in annual labor income as hiring begins in a couple of months and truss building starts by the end of the year. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police and SWAT executed a search warrant at Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter's home on Tuesday along Weatherby Lane — the Colorado Bureau of Investigation leads an inquiry into his private business at Davis Mortuary after inspectors found more than 20 bodies behind a hidden door, and Cotter complied with officers. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Pueblo Police Department said Pueblo was wrongly listed among the top 10 most dangerous cities, as FBI data and local comp stat records show overall crime and violent incidents like homicide have dropped compared to 2024. Mayor Heather Graham said the report is inaccurate because the numbers prove public opinion does not match true crime statistics — clearly showing that Pueblo is safer than the ranking suggests. - ➤ On Tuesday, the County Clerk’s Office confirmed it received a notice to start a recall petition to remove Coroner Brian Cotter after 24 bodies, bones, and probable human tissue were found at Davis Mortuary—David Jiron, Paulette Anaya, and Annette Garcia head the recall committee. The office will provide a cost estimate in three days and the petition will be active for 60 days if it gathers 16,431 valid signatures. KKTV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The American Cancer Society has asked Pueblo volunteers to drive cancer patients to appointments because only two volunteer drivers are available — they hope to have five volunteers by October to help ensure life-saving treatments are not missed. Three-time survivor Jessica Smith said reliable rides are key to keeping patients on schedule — missing a ride could mean missing needed care. KKTV
