- ➤ On Aug. 25, Jordan Dazzio, 37, was sentenced to eight years in prison for vehicular homicide for his role in a 2023 crash that killed 64-year-old Arthur Reece and his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit—he pleaded guilty in exchange for having other charges dropped. - ➤ A Colorado funeral director advised Pueblo families to check death certificates, metal ID coins, and certificates of cremation—steps to verify cremains after the CBI recovered 24 bodies and remains from Davis Mortuary amid a criminal investigation. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ A recall election to remove Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter, who is under criminal investigation after 24 bodies were found in his mortuary, would cost taxpayers about $480,200—petitioners must gather 16,431 valid signatures even though Colorado law does not allow removal until a conviction is reached. - ➤ Yesterday, the Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder’s Office announced an estimated cost of $480,200 for a recall election against County Coroner Brian Cotter after a Notice of Intent was received on Tuesday following the discovery of 24 bodies, bones, and probable human tissue at Davis Mortuary—an estimate based on previous election costs. If enough verified signatures are gathered in 60 days, the recall election will be scheduled to decide Cotter’s future in office. KKTV
- ➤ This week, Pueblo City Council approved an application to turn the nearly 100-year-old City Park Bathhouse into a historical landmark, but it must still pass review by the Historical Preservation Commission—Friends of City Park are trying again after last year’s veto and plan to seek grant money for repairs once the building is preserved. - ➤ Pueblo voters will decide in November whether to keep a strong mayor system or switch to a city council—city manager form after the city council approved a ballot question by a six—to—one vote. Mayor Heather Graham said personal conflicts and issues with Councilman Roger Gomez are behind the move and she will hold town halls in all four districts in September to oppose the change. FOX21
