COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SHIELD616, a local nonprofit that supports law enforcement, will hold its annual Tour de SHIELD616 ride — raising funds for body armor for first responders to stay safe in the field.  KOAA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Planet Fitness has moved to a new facility at 635 W 29th St.—the location adds 10,000 extra square feet, updated equipment and a spa with cryo lounge beds, standing tanning machines and hydro massage beds. Regional manager Katelynn Chavez said the change offers local members more options for fitness and wellness.  Pueblo Chieftain

CRIME NEWS

  • Attorneys held a public meeting on Wednesday in Pueblo as potential victims gathered to discuss legal steps over worries that their loved ones might be among the decomposing remains found at Davis Mortuary.  KKTV
  • The Pueblo Police Department launched its Non-fatal Shoot Team this year to investigate non-fatal shootings—so far, it has made 11 arrests in 17 cases while focusing on violent crime to reduce further homicides, according to Chief Chris Noeller.  KOAA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking local residents to fill out a statewide survey to help manage mule deer herds—responses will be used to shape future management decisions, and the survey is open on the CPW website until September 19.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Carson soldiers began field gunnery training yesterday that will cause increased noise and dust until November 7 (residents can direct complaints to the Public Affairs Office).  KOAA
  • Mayor Heather Graham kicked off her townhall tour across Pueblo yesterday at El Centro Del Quinto Sol—she answered community questions about city government. She will hold meetings on Sept. 11, Sept. 16 and Sept. 24 as voters prepare for the November election.  KOAA
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported that the Keep Colorado Wild Pass raised $41 million as 1.5 million residents bought passes to fund state parks, search and rescue, and avalanche safety—$32.5 million of which went to park improvements while the remainder supported rescue and wildlife projects.  KOAA
