- ➤ At the Relay for Life celebration held on September 6 at Runyon Sports Complex, cancer survivors in Pueblo shared their personal journeys and support for one another—Jessica Smith, who turned her own battle with the disease into leadership, and Barry Agnes, this year’s honored survivor. Their stories highlighted the strength found in the community and the lasting impact of the event. KKTV
- ➤ Pueblo hosted a ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial at the Riverwalk on Thursday, September 11th to honor those lost in the terrorist attacks, while Fire Chief Barb Huber recalled her experience from that day—she urged everyone to remember the sacrifices made. This event marked the 24th anniversary of the attack. KKTV
- ➤ Yesterday, Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center hosted its 10th Annual Patriot Day Giveback where more than 50 partners and over 100 volunteers helped military members, veterans and first responders with free items in a show of community support — $20,000 in sponsorship contributed to the event. The Care and Share Food Bank said a larger food distribution will take place today at CSU Pueblo’s parking lot. FOX21

- ➤ Pueblo Community College and UCHealth announced a program that will cover tuition, books and fees for Parkview employees to earn an associate degree in nursing—helping address Colorado's growing nurse shortage. KOAA

- ➤ Thousands of tarantulas are marching in search of mates near La Junta on the Comanche National Grassland as their mating season peaks in September—locals are advised to observe from a distance since the spiders’ hairs can be irritating. La Junta will host its Tarantula Fest on Sept 26-27—guided tours for the event are already fully booked. Pueblo Chieftain

- ➤ Pueblo funeral directors and citizens urged county commissioners on Sept. 11 not to appoint an interim coroner with ties to a funeral home industry—local leaders stressed that separating the roles is necessary to avoid conflicts of interest. County officials chose five finalists and will interview them soon, with the selected candidate serving until Nov. 3. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Colorado Parks and Wildlife signed a new contract with Lake Pueblo State Park that extends North Shore Marina operations until 2045. The contract lets CPW replace the aging marina with a new facility featuring 715 slips for vessels up to 65 feet and a revamped general store—offering a restaurant, laundry, increased fuel capacity, and pump out stations. - ➤ Dutch Clark Stadium in Pueblo finished its $5.2 million renovation that added ADA access, safer lighting, reconditioned stairs, handrails, improved restrooms and ADA pods, a repaved parking lot, and updated press boxes and locker rooms—PURA and Pueblo School District 60 led the project—making the historic venue safer and more accessible.
