- ➤ The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and Visit Pueblo will host the Chili and Salsa Showdown on Sept. 18 to start the 31st Annual Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival. Contestants using certified Pueblo green chiles will compete in commercial and non-commercial rounds—ten local celebrity judges will evaluate flavors and cash prizes will be awarded at an award ceremony on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. at the El Pueblo History Museum. - ➤ Comedian George Lopez will perform a one-night comedy show at Pueblo Memorial Hall on Friday, Sept. 19—tickets are sold only through the official venue website—and his event includes one-time admission to the Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival. FOX21

- ➤ Jenna Conklin, a local esthetician and business owner, is running for the District 5 seat on the Pueblo County School District 70 Board and she aims to improve funding and increase accountability in classroom spending—she wants to cut extra costs and bring funds directly into schools. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pueblo county commissioners interviewed five candidates to replace former coroner Brian Cotter, who resigned after decomposing bodies were found at his funeral home—officials said the appointment will serve the remainder of his term until an election is held next year. The new coroner must meet specific requirements, including being a Pueblo resident and passing a background check to help restore trust in the office. KKTV
- ➤ Lake Pueblo State Park is getting a new North Shore Marina as The O’Neil Group signs a contract to run it through 2045 while CPW pays about $1 million to remove the old structure. Construction on the new facility with 715 slips will begin in fall 2026 — the project will add a general store, restaurant and more amenities. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ The Pueblo County Sheriff’s office said an active shooter exercise will be held on Sept. 18 at the Dennis Maes Judicial Building to test the response of the 10th Judicial District Court, probation staff, sheriff’s deputies, fire department, and local hospitals—this drill will start at 9:30 a.m. and keep the building closed to the public for the day. - ➤ Colorado House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese resigned on Monday, Sept. 15 from House District 14 after serving since January 2023 and saying she needed to focus on her children and safety. A GOP vacancy committee—set to choose her replacement within the next 30 days—will fill the seat. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo commissioners interviewed coroner candidates today as part of their effort to fill a local vacancy. Officials said each candidate is being reviewed thoroughly—decisions on the new appointment will be made once evaluations are complete. KKTV
