GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Certified surgical tech and Pueblo mom Tiffany Estrada, a 20-year local resident, is running for City Council District 1 as one of four candidates and will focus on public safety, professional development and quality of life by addressing addiction and mental health challenges + improving crime prevention programs.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • A Pueblo library will reopen today after a year-long $4.2 million renovation—officials say the upgrades will improve access to local resources.  KKTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Jared Polis met with health leaders and small business owners in Colorado Springs and warned that nearly 75,000 Coloradans could lose coverage and rural families might face premium hikes of 200 to 300 percent if Congress does not act soon on health care tax credits—state aid under House Bill 1006 will cover only about 20,000 to 25,000 people. A White House spokesman said the credits were designed to expire.  KKTV

  • Pueblo Central topped Pueblo Centennial in the 125th Bell Game — Pueblo County beat Pueblo South as teams from Palmer Ridge, Cheyenne Mountain, Sand Creek, Rye, Ellicott, Mead, and Peyton played week 5 football games in Southern Colorado.   • Centennial and Central High School will meet for the 125th time on the gridiron in the Bell Game—an enduring rivalry that started in 1892—and the contest will mark the 75th time the teams face off for the trophy donated by Lewis Rhodes in 1950.  FOX21
