COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Patrick A. Lucero Library at 1315 E. 7th St. will reopen on Oct. 1 after a $4.2 million expansion that added 2,500 square feet for community use — including a maker space, an audio-visual studio and outdoor chess tables. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 with free public events planned to celebrate the upgrade on Pueblo’s East Side.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • More than 2,000 people gathered in Colorado Springs on Sept. 27 for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Memorial Park to help raise $330,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association—the Pueblo event contributed over $56,000 toward a regional total of $256,794 that funds free services for local residents with Alzheimer’s.  FOX21
  • The Blunt family has launched Autism Mana’s fall exercise program that meets every Saturday morning at Epic Fitness for children on the autism spectrum using a sensory-friendly high intensity interval training format—supported by a grant from the Denver Foundation.   • Students from Widefield School District 3 gathered outside Janitell Middle School on Sunday to protest gun violence—prompted by a Mesa Ridge High School weapons incident—in order to call for stronger school safety measures.  KOAA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local weight loss surgeons and researchers say compounded GLP-1 injections, made with ingredients similar to Ozempic, have been available at nearly 200 Colorado clinics and med spas since the FDA lifted its semaglutide shortage in April—experts caution that these alternatives are not FDA-approved and may be marketed with misleading claims. Rising branded drug costs have pushed patients toward these compounded options while some legal actions aim to tighten state-level compounding regulations.  KOAA
  • Albertsons recalled Ready Meals Pesto Bowtie Pasta Salad and Basil Pesto Bowtie Pasta Salad from Colorado stores due to a recalled bowtie pasta ingredient that may be contaminated with listeria bacteria—customers can return the products for a full refund and no injuries were reported.  FOX21
