GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two ramps along southbound I-25 in Pueblo will close at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10 for a major interchange project that will detour traffic to Colorado Highway 47—motorists must follow detour signs to access eastbound U.S. 50B and southbound I-25. The $114 million project is scheduled to finish by early summer as work continues to improve safety and traffic flow.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • The Colorado Bureau of Investigation reported that it issued 41 Senior Alerts for missing elders with medical or cognitive conditions in the first 8 months of 2025 and provided nearly $90,000 in state grant funding to help local governments boost recovery efforts—resources like drones and thermal imagers have supported these programs.  FOX21
  • CDOT is partnering with a community coalition to boost seatbelt use after a study found that only 71.6% of Pueblo County drivers buckle up—well below state and national averages. Local artists have designed large signs with common excuses to encourage drivers to change their habits.  KOAA
  • On Monday, Sept 29, the Colorado Attorney General’s Office launched an online training program that teaches educators how to use the ERPO law to remove firearms from those who pose a danger. Developed with Safe2Tell, the 30-minute course offers downloadable resources and continuing education credit — a tool to help schools act quickly — and aims to reduce school violence and student suicides.  FOX21
  • A potential government shutdown could impact thousands in Southern Colorado because federal accounts may not have funds to pay over 20,000 employees, with many civilian workers in El Paso county at risk of delayed pay — military bases like Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base and the Air Force Academy plan to continue vital services if an agreement is not reached.  KOAA
