EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pueblo School District 60 is reviewing several rightsizing scenarios to address declining enrollment based on a community survey, and it is holding meetings on October 13, October 21, and October 27 to gather more input—changes will not happen until the 2026-2027 school year. KKTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Four candidates for Pueblo City Council District 1—Elvis Martinez, Kassidy Hall, Dianne Danti, and Tiffany Estrada—debated on October 1 at Pueblo Community College and shared their differing views on ending the PEDCO contract, the planned Comanche 3 closure in 2031, and the city's budget shortfall. One candidate will be elected on November 4 to fill the seat while local leaders decide how to spur economic growth and protect jobs. Pueblo Chieftain
- ➤ Federal workers in Colorado are told by the Department of Labor and Employment that furloughed employees may file for unemployment benefits during the shutdown—benefits will be repaid once back pay is issued. In a separate incident, a small plane crash-landed in Colorado Springs at 4:15 a.m. with three people onboard all safe—local crews reported no injuries. KOAA
