COMMUNITY NEWS

  • As the federal shutdown continues, Pikes Peak United Way is giving food and money help to over 300 local families—one-quarter of whom are federal workers—and it urges residents to call 2-1-1 for more support. In a separate case, Teller County Sheriff's Deputy Chase Mikesell, the sheriff’s son, was charged with DUI and possessing a weapon while under the influence for an incident in August—authorities said.  KOAA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The annual Pueblo Ghost Walk will take place this fall as ghost actors share stories that show how Pueblo’s history lives on—organizers say the event lets locals experience the past during spooky season.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • This spooky season, haunted houses in southern Colorado will offer visitors unique scare experiences. Fear Complex and HellScream in Colorado Springs, Terror at the Warehouse in Florence starting Oct. 11, and Aftermath plus Dark Side of the Abbey in Cañon City feature themed scares—tickets support local youth and community programs.  FOX21

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CSU Pueblo—classified as a Hispanic-serving institution—said it will lose $3.6 million in HSI grant funding over the next few years.  KKTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Pueblo County will elect council members, school board members, and decide on several ballot measures in an election on Nov. 4. Mail-in ballots are sent on Oct. 10 and twelve secure, 24-hour drop boxes — placed throughout the county — along with five polling centers will offer multiple ways for voters to cast their ballots.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Colorado will return to standard time on Nov. 2 when clocks change back at 2 a.m.—giving residents an extra hour of sleep while winter sunsets begin earlier. Lawmakers pushed for permanent daylight saving time but need other Mountain states to agree on the change.  Pueblo Chieftain
