COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pueblo District Court will host Legal Resource Day on Friday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Dennis Maes Judicial Building near downtown Pueblo to offer residents free legal advice (up to 15 minutes) and classes on handling issues like evictions and protection orders.  KOAA
  • Two Pueblo groups, Pueblo Indivisible and Grassroots Pueblo, will hold protests tomorrow against what they see as authoritarian policies and rising healthcare costs while also boosting voter turnout and collecting food donations for furloughed federal workers; Pueblo Indivisible will protest at the courthouse at 215 W 10th Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Grassroots Pueblo will gather at the corner of 4th Street and Abriendo Avenue from 10:30 a.m. to noon + both events are part of the national No Kings movement.  Pueblo Chieftain

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dollar General reached a settlement with Colorado’s attorney general after an investigation found that registers charged customers more than shelf prices— the company will pay a $400,000 fine, post signs promising the lowest price, and undergo price audits for three years. Inspections in Weld and Larimer counties revealed pricing differences over the allowed limits.  FOX21

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pueblo Transit and Pueblo Community College are partnering to let PCC students ride buses for free—PCC will fund $50,000 annually from a federal grant over a three-year period.  KOAA
  • Jenkins Middle School broke ground on a new academic wing yesterday—District 11 staff and students joined the ceremony. School officials said planning is complete and construction will begin soon.  KKTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office canceled its Halloween event set for October 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. after community members protested the timing amid an ongoing investigation into Davis Mortuary that uncovered 24 decomposing bodies—Dr. Greg Grahek apologized for any distress the event may have caused.  KKTV
  • On Tuesday, Oct. 14, Pueblo City Council voted on a resolution inviting Buc-ee’s to consider opening a travel center in Pueblo instead of near Palmer Lake — the council will work with the company to choose a site and speed up reviews. The move follows local pushback over the Palmer Lake proposal, as the Town of Palmer Lake’s board sent plans for annexing 25 acres for the project on Oct. 2.  FOX21
