- ➤ Jamaican residents in the Pikes Peak region spoke out after Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica—leaving at least eight dead and over 600,000 without power. Local restaurant owner Peter Wright said he was relieved his family was safe while many on the island are still missing, and he believes the community will rebuild. KKTV

- ➤ Cleanup crews removed tons of trash that had been illegally dumped over Piñon Bridge in northern Pueblo County on Oct. 29—local officials have noted the bridge has long been used as a dumping ground. Pueblo Chieftain

- ➤ Pueblo County High School's marching band won the Class 3A state championship on Oct 27 with a Space Cowboys-themed performance that mixed classical music, Elton John tunes, and anime themes— the unique show included a guitarist riding a Onewheel and beat runner-up D’Evelyn by 1.1 points at Stocker Stadium. - ➤ Fountain Utilities in Fountain is helping customers avoid disconnection amid a cold night and a federal budget impasse by offering three assistance programs—Lighten the Load, Energy Outreach Colorado, and Home Front Cares. Customers, including military families and small businesses, should call customer service at (719) 322-2010 to discuss individual plans. FOX21
- ➤ Pueblo Public Works is designing the West Side Connector Project to link the west side with downtown by building over 60 bus stops, extending a road and constructing a bridge + the more than $16 million project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and work is set to begin next fall. - ➤ Colorado taxpayers will receive their TABOR refunds after they file their state taxes starting mid-to-late January; single filers are estimated to get about $20—$62 while joint filers may receive roughly $40—$124. The refund timing will depend on whether the deposit is electronic or by mail, and refunds will not be issued for the 2026 tax year. FOX21
- ➤ The U.S. Air Force Academy said its annual pep rally—which boosts morale ahead of a game with West Point—will cause noise and smoke visible from I-25 on Friday, Oct. 31. The event is closed to the public—firefighters and response vehicles will be on standby to ensure safety. FOX21
