  • Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center hosted the third annual Pueblo Veterans Community Update on November 12, drawing hundreds of veterans, community leaders, and service providers. • Due to a government shutdown that delayed SNAP benefits, the Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen saw a significant rise in clients and began offering an evening meal and extra food boxes to support local families. Director Kathy Cline said the kitchen was well prepared from earlier planning (and now serves extra hot lunches and meals) while county officials have not confirmed when benefits will resume.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • KKTV 11 News is raising $25,000 today for Care and Share—Southern Colorado’s food bank as higher demand grows with delayed SNAP benefits and a government shutdown. Anchors Adam Atchison and Lindsey Boetsch will provide live updates during the 4 p.m. broadcast.  KKTV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A government shutdown has hurt local businesses in Pueblo, with grocery stores and restaurants losing up to 20% of sales because SNAP benefits were delayed. Business leaders say the drop in food stamp payments has cut consumer spending and may force shops to reduce hours or jobs—adding pressure to the local economy.  Pueblo Chieftain

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pueblo School District 60 announced a plan to combine and close some schools because fewer kids are enrolling. The district will merge Bradford with Park View, Bessemer with Columbian, and Beulah Heights with Highland Park — changes that add preschool centers, STREAM classes, and community hubs — with board approval expected in January 2026.  KKTV
  • Yesterday, six students from Pueblo School District 60 and Pueblo County School District 70 were chosen as 'Fire Chief for a Day' after their essays on why they wanted the role earned them fire truck rides + free food, awards, and a magic show.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials said full SNAP food assistance funding will resume today for about 600,000 Coloradans on SNAP as the federal government reopens after its shutdown — the state confirmed that December payments will also be sent and that participants who have signed up for text alerts will receive updates soon.  KKTV
  • Pueblo Transit announced that City Park stops will be added to South Shopping Route 5 starting Monday, November 17. The new stops include Pueblo City Park Pool, Pueblo Zoo and a stop near the park's east entrance — riders will board every hour from 7:45 a.m. with a required transfer.  KOAA
