COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three hundred Pueblo elementary school families received $100 Kroger gift cards on Nov. 19 from a $30,000 donation by Elevate Healthcare (facilitated by nonprofit Manos Unidas) to help families during a 42-day government shutdown that paused SNAP benefits. The gift cards were equally distributed to Baca, Minnequa, and Bessemer elementary schools (100 cards per school).  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Pikes Peak United Way and Harrison School District 2 partnered to run an Adopt-a-Family program that has 55 families needing help with gifts and essentials—donations will be accepted on December 10 and 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Pikes Peak United Way Family Success Center on Verde Drive.  KOAA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation shows that a Thanksgiving dinner for ten costs $55.18 nationally while costing nearly $62 in Colorado, which is $13 less than last year in Colorado but still above the U.S. average. Economist Joe Craig said Colorado’s dry climate increases transportation costs—raising prices for turkey, sweet potatoes, and dinner rolls.  KKTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A conservative law firm asked a local lawyer to help open a public Christian school for a test case on using public funds for religious education, and the Pueblo 70 school board approved Riverstone Academy on June 24 — it opened with 30 elementary students in an industrial zone while officials maintained the district would not engage in the legal challenge.  Pueblo Chieftain

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CDOT announced today that its expanded Bustang service now offers holiday travel alternatives from Colorado Springs with lower fares, such as $12 for Denver trips and $29 for mountain routes – extra trips have been added for peak demand. The agency reported a 21% rise in ridership – showing more travelers are choosing professional drivers to avoid winter roads.  KOAA
  • City officials will meet at Fire Station 11 on Dec. 3 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. to review plans for West Side improvements funded by a $16.8M federal transportation grant — the Sun Mountain Boulevard project connecting West 31st and West 24th Streets and upgrades for over 60 bus stops to meet ADA standards; both projects will be completed by the end of 2027.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that the South Boat Ramp at Lake Pueblo State Park closed Wednesday at 6 p.m. and will remain closed through winter—boaters must use the North Boat Ramp from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., planning their departures to avoid being locked out overnight.  KKTV

  • Several restaurants in Pueblo will be open Thanksgiving Day to serve classic meals with turkey, glazed ham, stuffing, and pumpkin pie—each offering varied menus and hours—while some ask guests to make reservations.
