COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Old Colorado City business owners are urging residents to shop small this weekend as local stores offer Black Friday deals and free parking on Small Business Saturday—stores will also host The Christmas Stroll with Santa, hot cocoa, and treats to welcome families.  FOX21
  • Colorado Springs single mother Vera Garyeazon—a registered nurse—has adopted her foster daughter Evelynn, who has cerebral palsy and needs round-the-clock care as part of National Adoption Month recognized by the Colorado Department of Human Services. She has cared for more than half a dozen medically fragile children and now works part-time while relying on state help to manage her expenses.  KOAA
  • Last week, Pueblo saw a range of events as Diego Valverde played disc golf at Pueblo City Park on November 19 and Pueblo East High School students sorted 450 boxes of food during the 30th annual Tom and Louie's Cupboard event on November 21—local officials also announced a $17 million grant for West Side improvements and ongoing work drained the Riverwalk for channel expansion.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Scheduled for November 29 at 5:30 p.m., the 35th annual Pueblo Parade of Lights will begin on Abriendo where Union meets Colorado Avenue—leading floats northeast on Union, then north on Main and west on Grand Avenue—to feature 80 decorated entries, festive music, and recognized figures John Carleo as grand marshal and Joe Arrigo as honorary marshal.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Pueblo hosts many holiday events from Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas that offer free and ticketed family activities including the Courthouse Lighting Ceremony today, the YMCA 5K Turkey Trot on Nov. 27, parades, craft markets and live shows—promising festive local traditions.  Pueblo Chieftain
  • Outpost Harley-Davidson on North Elizabeth Street near Ridge Drive will host The Pueblo Turkey Giveaway Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., giving out about 400 turkey baskets — with coffee, donuts, and live music provided by local businesses and nonprofits to help feed families for Thanksgiving.  KOAA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The CSU Pueblo Foundation has announced two new scholarships for undergraduate students in psychology, social sciences, and business. The Mary Jane Vigil-Porter Memorial Scholarship offers a minimum of $1,000 per year to students in service fields—while the Cardinal Family Scholarship provides a $25,000 endowment for business majors or minors.  FOX21

  • A winning Colorado Lotto+ ticket worth $3,204,234 sold at Alta Convenience Store in Trinidad remains unclaimed, with state lottery officials confirming the winning numbers were 5, 10, 13, 17, 30, and 35—if claimed, the ticket would make its owner a millionaire.  KOAA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado's Low-income Energy Assistance Program will receive funding and start distributing benefits this week to eligible families earning less than $83,000, offering assistance of $200 to $1,000 per household. More than 49,000 Coloradans have applied so far and applications will be accepted until April 30.  KOAA
