- ➤ C.A.R.E. Inc. opened its expanded day program featuring Pueblo’s first sensory room for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities on December 4 at West 2nd Street — a service gap long unmet. Enrollment has doubled since the opening and staff say the new support area meets critical needs. KOAA
- ➤ Kevin Hughes of American Driving Academy in Colorado Springs shows drivers how to handle icy skids by gently steering and adding gas to regain traction. He advises going slow, increasing following distance, and using an emergency kit (jumper cables, blanket, snow shovel, snacks, drinks) to stay safe on winter roads. KOAA
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Unemployment claims in Colorado dropped last week as new filings fell to 2,813 from 3,769 the previous week, the Labor Department reported Thursday — nationwide data also showed a seasonal drop with total jobless claims reaching 191,000. Pueblo Chieftain

- ➤ Dr. Rhonda Epper, the current president of Trinidad State College, was named the sole finalist for the CSU Pueblo presidency on Dec. 4, 2025 — a 14-day waiting period per state law means an official hire will follow. Pueblo Chieftain
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Jared Polis joined Fort Carson officials on Thursday to celebrate the grand opening of a new elementary school building that will serve over 400 military-connected students when classes start Jan. 7, after nearly two years of construction. KOAA
- ➤ Pueblo tested a new liquid brine solution on Tuesday to treat icy roads. The city switched from magnesium chloride to a mix of rock salt (four parts water, one part rock salt) and bought a machine to save about $12,000 a year. KOAA
