EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pueblo School District 60 is teaming with Pueblo Transit to help high school students overcome transportation issues after a recent study showed a 43% chronic absenteeism rate in 2023–24. The district’s 'Be Present, Be Powerful and Empowered by Reading' initiative began last school year and will offer more free rides as it works to improve attendance for the 2025–26 school year. - ➤ On Sunday, Aug. 10th at 10:45 a.m., Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported that a large fallen tree blocked nearly the entire channel of the Arkansas River three miles above Swallows—posing a risk to boaters and water users. - ➤ Pueblo City Council is voting on an ordinance that—if passed—will put a measure on the November 4 ballot to raise sales and use tax from 3.7% to 4.7%, potentially generating more than $26 million for the general fund.
